Aspen Ridge Resort is a unique place for meetings of up to 40 people. The remote location offers privacy, freedom from urban distractions, and a variety of recreational activities.
The prime grasslands of Fishhole Valley have provided a living for many families over the centuries. The remains of tepee rings and scattered arrowheads show that the meadows were once the hunting grounds of Native Americans. Frames of old barns and houses from the homestead of the community of Vistillas stand as reminders of the past. As the ranch changed hands over the years, each new owner made a contribution. Fishhole Ranch is a collage of hard work and love.
Aspen Ridge Resort is located on the border of Klamath and Lake Counties, about 18 miles southeast of Bly, Oregon off of Highway 140. Year-round access is provided by Fishhole Creek Road (#3790) one mile east of Bly. The resort is also accessed by Forest Service Road #3715 (at the summit of Quartz Mountain on Highway 140) until the road is closed by snow.
ACREAGE & DESCRIPTION
Situated in both Klamath and Lake Counties, the ranch boasts 15,300+/- total acres, 3,598 acres are deeded and the remaining being on a long-standing, adjacent U.S. Forest Service grazing permit. The deeded acreage offers a diverse mix of timber land, upland grazing, sub-irrigated and irrigated lands together with lakes and the Resort Building site. The ranch consists of high mountain meadows, lakes, streams, surrounded by aspen and pine tree forest, and offers exceptional rangeland.
Operations consist of a unique blend of ranching and lodging/recreation. Fishhole Creek Ranch conducts the ranching activities and Aspen Ridge Resort blends in the lodging and recreation activities.
Fishhole Ranch is your typical Oregon high mountain cattle ranch with high quality feed producing big gains. Due to the high elevation, the grazing season generally runs from May to November, as with other Oregon ranches the cattle are shipped to California for the winter months. This matches up with California's native range, with the opposite season, keeping the cattle on green feed year-round. California gets fall rains, generally, pushes feed until spring when the north wind and heat dries up the feed. Southern Oregon moves thousands of cattle to northern California in the fall and receives the cattle back come spring. Fishhole Ranch will run 800 summer/fall calving cows.
Aspen Ridge Resort offers lodging and meals to guests who can mix in with the ranch activities at their leisure or enjoy the other activities if riding a horse is not the first choice. Aspen Ridge has also hosted a number of weddings and the venue as a destination resort could be enhanced at one’s own election. Rustic elegance marks the accommodations in the log cabins, lodge rooms, and suites. The rooms in the lodge are perfect for short stays. Overlooking a meadow where cattle graze, each 1,250 square foot cabin sleeps six.
Nature's playground begins right at your doorstep at Aspen Ridge Resort. Surrounded by the Fremont National Forest, this working cattle ranch offers horseback riding, fishing in the area's many lakes, hiking, tennis, swimming, and mountain biking. In the winter months, you can strap on cross-country skis or hop on a snowmobile. If a more relaxed pace suits you, slow down. Aspen Ridge Resort has a sport for everyone.
The property consists of 686+/- acres of primary irrigation water rights. With storage water rights from neighboring reservoirs on U.S. Forest Service land the property has secure gravity-flow irrigation making it an exceptional summer home with rich feed for 800 pair of cows/calves.
RECREATION & WILDLIFE
Fishhole Creek Ranch has a plethora of wildlife including elk, antelope, mule deer, duck and geese, eagles and coyotes to name a few. The property receives four landowner preference tags each year on Mule deer. The owner having taken enough for his lifetime has been donating the tags to "Hunt of a Lifetime". It is a non-profit that offers hunts to people under 21 years old who have life threatening illnesses. With the lodging here, they are able to bring in some kids and keep them comfortable around the hunting. It doesn't happen every year here, but they make the tags available in case there is a need. The new owner may choose to do what they want with the tags.
In addition to wildlife watching, fishing in the lakes and streams and horseback riding are favored activities together with mountain biking, hiking and tennis along with a variety of other activities making the ranch and lodge a recreational mecca.
The ranch is located in the Fremont-Winema National Forest, offering a wide array of activities. Fishing, hunting, backpacking, hiking, camping, boating, and leisure driving opportunities abound. In the winter, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing are popular activities.
The Fremont and Winema National Forests' diverse habitats also support a variety of species, making wildlife viewing a unique recreation experience. Big game, such as mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, and pronghorn antelope, all populate the forests and grasslands. Several varieties of trout inhabit lakes and streams, as well as warm-water fish, such as large mouth bass. In the spring and fall, migrating geese, ducks and swans are in abundance. Large predators, such as black bears, mountain lions, and bobcats, also live in the forests.
A 7,000 square-foot log lodge and five 1,250 square-foot log cabins - currently operating as the uniquely beautiful Aspen Ridge Resort - allow for sophisticated living conditions despite the property's remoteness and could be used as a private family or group retreat complex. Fully self-contained, the lodge and cabins use a state-of-the-art hydro generator power system, lateral well and domestic-use water cistern. Set just through the valley from the lodge, a historic homestead featuring a two-bedroom log cabin, multiple barns and out-buildings, corral and pastures makes for an ideal place for a ranch hand to live.
Fishhole Creek Ranch is the full package - from a top-notch seasonal cattle operation to upscale lodging, outdoor recreation including fishing and hunting and unrivaled tranquility. Exceptionally maintained, improved and run for more than 150 years - the last 40 by one family. Fishhole Creek Ranch and Aspen Ridge Resort is the kind of place that feeds the soul. Kick back with a book or kick back in the saddle. Fishhole Creek Ranch and Aspen Ridge Resort have a sport for everyone.
